The Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation brings together more than 275 retailers, food and beverage manufacturers, restaurants, sporting goods and insurance companies, trade associations, nonprofits and professional sports organizations. HWCF focuses on reducing childhood obesity by working with schools and families. In just five years, HWCF members have already removed 6.4 trillion calories from the marketplace—a 78 calorie reduction per person, per day.
United Way has worked with HWCF in creative ways to encourage wellness, including co-sponsoring college internships to engage young people in the fight against fat. For example, one national competition—called “Eat, Play Love”—engaged college students in promoting healthy, active lifestyles and healthy eating among American families. The interns supported marketing strategies on behalf of the Together Counts™ campaign, a national initiative encouraging families to engage in physical activities together and eat meals together to help counter obesity and promote good health.
